BOXS POS - Takeaway Mode
A POS system that makes takeout effortless for staff and customers
The current takeaway mode of the client's Point of Sale (POS) system lacks the necessary features and design elements to facilitate efficient order management and a seamless workflow for everyday business users. This poses challenges when handling a large volume of takeaway orders simultaneously, leading to potential operational bottlenecks and a subpar user experience. The client has expressed a need for a clear and intuitive takeaway mode that aligns with their specific requirements and enables smooth order processing, while also ensuring synchronization with dine-in orders if applicable. The goal is to address these pain points and optimize the takeaway experience within the POS system to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Research
1. Face to face Interview
We moderate an interview with one of our existing client. The client tell us that they want a clear and seamless takeaway mode to foster the operation flow when they needs to be handled a lot of orders in the same time.
After conducting interviews, we have defined the workflows and use cases for users of our POS (Point of Sale) and KDS (Kitchen Display System). The workflows can be categorized into four main categories. Different use cases may impact the color coding of orders and the specific statuses that need to be displayed. It is essential to ensure that staff members do not confuse the statuses between dine-in and takeaway orders. All necessary information should be displayed within each order.
2. Define Staff Task flow
What status should shown in every stage?
In order to understand which status need to be shown and changed in each part, I have divide to different possible scenario(e.g. clients who used KDS and not used KDS) to help me to define the takeaway order status.
To ensure clarity in our POS table management system, it is crucial to address the question: "Can the status of takeaway orders sync with dine-in orders?" This is a significant concern, particularly for users who require both dine-in and takeaway functionalities. If the order statuses do not synchronize accurately, it can create a substantial problem as it disrupts the flow of operations for these users.

Insights gathered from shop-alongs play a crucial role in driving improvements to the shopping experience. By involving our customer service colleagues who have direct interactions with clients, we gain valuable insights into user needs. Taking the time to create flow charts and simple prototypes helps in visualizing and demonstrating the interaction process, making it easier to understand and address user requirements effectively.
Solutions
We will design a full-width list view component for the new takeaway mode. It will separate dine-in and takeaway orders and include commonly used buttons within the component itself, eliminating the need to navigate into bill details. This improves efficiency and enhances the user experience.
Final Evaluated
After I finished the prototype design, we released the design implements step by step and internal iteration. The takeaway mode is released with BoxPOS v1.5
